Costume Details

Mona was my first cosplay from Genshin Impact! I fell in love with this game when it first released in 2020 and I thought Mona had such a unique design. I was inspired by Kinpatsu Cosplay’s Witch Peach cosplay, and wanted to use similar fabrics/crafting techniques for Mona!

The primary fabrics I used for this cosplay were stretch PVC for all the purple parts, and faux suede for the red parts. I created a firm understructure using EVA foam, then covered this in fabric either by sewing a fabric “pocket” or contact gluing it to the foam directly.

I was inspired by SKS Props’ witch hat tutorial for the hat, as well as Mikachan’s method of attaching the hair ends.

I owe this cosplay a lot, as I gained a lot of online recognition through it which in turn gave me the social media following I needed in order to pursue cosplay full-time. I will be forever grateful for this ♡

Looking back, I would approach this cosplay in a completely different way when it comes to constructing it. I intend to remake the entire costume, using a corseted bodysuit (inspired by Caviar Costumes’ Mona cosplay), and overall better construction techniques. But that’s a problem for future me!
